Ever see the movie Blood Diamond? Great flick. I thought the acting and production was fantastic, but paled in comparison to the compelling story of the boy and his father. Very moving.
The epic caused a worldwide stir when it was filmed in the early 2000s, triggering girls across the glode to double check if their rock, was really‘conflict-free.’ According to rules set by the United Nations to be conflict free these gemstones do not come from an area involved in conflict by armies that are fighting against United Nations recognized governing bodies. Conflict diamond from conflict areas sell to massive diamond conglomerates often provide the required funds needed for the militant groups to over throw the government. Blood Diamond shows how this scenario must be stopped.
Luckily for you as a savvy consumer, diamonds also are found in other areas of the planet. If you or your wife is particularly hesitant about getting a rock from or next to a dangerous zone (remember that not all conflict-free diamonds are necessarily conflict free) in the African continent, than one of these non-African areas may be for you.
When you're ready to buy an engagement ring make sure you check out that site. Great tips, including some stuff on canadian diamonds.
Speaking of diamonds from the great white north:
The most popular, and newest conflict-free diamond producing country is just to the north of our country (where the majority of jewelry are purchased in the world) in Canada. In the 1990’s in the Northwest state, diamond mines were opened, under strict supervision, and corporations have been finding more and more stones ever since.
In fact, Canada is now the third leading producer of diamonds in the world. The nation actually mined more diamonds than all but Botswana and Russia
Stones from Canada besides just being certified conflict free and sustainably mined, have a number of other most-wanted traits.
These are: great clarity, only a couple of imperfections, and near-white color grades. Most US jewelry stores are also now selling Canadian diamonds as a way to prove to buyers that what they offer is guaranteed conflict-free. Due to high sales, stones like these are often more costly than stones that come from mines in Africa. This is also due to the fact that there are simply not as many stones found in Canada, and that offering employees humane conditions {to work in|to do their job|to mine for diamonds| costs more money to the company. That cost, in some ways, is passed through to the purchaser.
If you’re the type of diamond buyer who is willing to pay a little more for a product created by people in more ideal working environments, than a CA Diamond might just be the perfect buy for you. Want more diamond buying tips? Or wondering about engagement ring cost? Or just buy a big rock.
Go watch the movie, then tell me what YOU think!
